The installation ceremony for Christopher Stirland as Right Worshipful Master of Lodge 774 was conducted on 3 December 2016 by Donald Bannatyne and John Macdonald. The Lodge was opened at 14:00 and raised for the purposes of installation. Donald Bannatyne invited all past and reigning masters to join him in the adjacent where the ceremony of installation was to be carried out. John Macdonald then installed the remaining office bearers in the Lodge, a job he does very well indeed.
It was a good day for freemasonry on the Isle of Arran, although the numbers were down on typical years because of there no longer being a 19:20 ferry off the island. This didn’t dampen the day though; the ceremony went flawlessly and we sat down to a wonderful harmony afterwards where we were treated to some of Donald Galbraith’s famous stew.
John Murchie was toastmaster for the harmony and did a grand job of introducing the speakers and entertaining us with his jokes. The Province of Argyll and the Isles was there in good numbers and good cheer, represented by none other than the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master himself, Kenneth Johnson.
The raffle went well, with a grand prize of £250 in cash and a second prize of a festive hamper donated by Bobby Rodgers. The table was laden with bottles and boxes and envelopes and a few brethren went home with multiple prizes. Many thanks to all who participated in this and who donated the wonderful prizes.
