We opened our new season on Monday, 21 September, with a Mark degree on two candidates, Brothers William Brown and Donald McKelvie. Andrew McNiven was not able to make it and William Brown is a recent affiliate to 774 and, when we discovered he didn’t have his Mark, it seemed the sensible thing to do to put him through, seeing as he was there anyway! Brother Bill is from a Lodge in the English Constitution and hadn’t realised that things were done differently in Scotland. He thought he was coming to a regular meeting that he would be able to attend, not realising that the Mark is not a separate Lodge in Scotland, but rather a degree usually performed by a craft Lodge. It was a minor panic at the start of the meeting before we took advice on whether we could put Brother Bill through; thankfully, we could!
The degree team was as follows:
- Conductors: Alex Roberts (SD) and Alan Campbell (JD)
- Junior Overseer: Donald Mackay PM
- Senior Overseer: Andrew Perrie PM
- Master Overseer: Andrew Martin IPM
- Secrets: Alan Campbell
- Jewel: Alan Campbell
- Working Tools: Alex Roberts
- Lecture: Chris Stirland (WSW)
- Charge: John McDonald PM (DoC)
